How to Export iMessage Texts

Apple doesn't offer a native “Export chat” button, but these three workflows capture everything Lucen needs—without jailbreaking your phone.

Lucen can ingest screen recordings and stitched screenshots, then auto-transcribe them into clean text for analysis—so you don't need special desktop software to export long threads.

Limitation: there's no official Apple API for exporting individual threads. Choose the method that balances speed and detail for you.

Before you start

  • Update to the latest iOS/macOS so timestamps are accurate.
  • Disable Focus/Do Not Disturb temporarily so banners don’t hide messages.
  • Decide whether you need the entire history or just the recent arc.

Option 1: Screenshots (fastest)

  • Step 1

Scroll to the start of the timeframe you want.

  • Step 2

Take overlapping screenshots (Volume Up + Power on Face ID devices).

  • Step 3

AirDrop or upload the images to Lucen. We stitch them automatically.

Option 2: Screen recording (best for long chats)

  • Step 1

Add “Screen Recording” to Control Center (Settings → Control Center).

  • Step 2

Start a recording, scroll through the conversation slowly, stop recording.

  • Step 3

Trim the video if needed, then upload directly to Lucen.
